The BA Joint Honours programme aims to provide students with a unique opportunity to develop knowledge, insight and understanding of two distinct yet complementary subject areas.

Childhood Studies

Childhood and youth are hugely significant topics in 21st Century society and Childhood Studies takes views of childhood and youth as a focus of critical enquiry. This route considers a range of perspectives and ideas held by parents, professionals, and young people that impact on children’s lives and the cultures in which they live.

Guidance and Counselling Studies

Guidance and Counselling Studies involves enquiry into the theoretical perspectives underpinning guidance and counselling models and strategies. It includes the analysis and evaluation of the effectiveness of different approaches, and opportunities to apply your developing skills and knowledge in practice.

Studying this BA Joint Honours programme will equip you with the necessary skills, knowledge and understandings to engage in a wide variety of professional contexts working with children, families and communities. Former students are now working in traditional professions such as teaching (in schools and Further Education), social work and youth work. Other destinations which attract our graduates include healthcare, human resources and the emerging fields within children’s services. In addition some graduates choose to continue to further postgraduate research or professional training.
